Outdoor Family Sessions are back in full swing now that the weather is warming up. I absolutely love these sessions and watching families interact in the fresh air. The Eldred Family reached out to me for some updated spring photos and I was so excited to meet with them again. A few years back I had the privilege of capturing their oldest son’s newborn photos and then again before Covid hit. It was great to spend time with them and see how much their family has grown since 2020.
Sessions with toddlers can be quite an adventure, but one thing I’ve learned over time is to follow the lead of the little ones. If they want to go look in the grass, we go over to the grass and take photos there. If they want to sit down, we take some photos sitting down. Toddlers can set the tone for sessions and if we are constantly trying to redirect them it can seem frustrating for both parents and kids and take a lot of the fun out of the process. I’ve also noticed that the more “no”’s and “just smile”’s you say to a toddler, the less likely they are to cooperate.
At the end of the day, my job is to make the process enjoyable for ALL- even the kids, to capture photos that tell the story of your family (even the crazy moments), and to make the process as stress-free as I possibly can.
