A Year Gone By
365 days- one FULL year! You know what they say, the days are long but the years are short. Each day can feel so long when you are in the middle of it, but looking back you realize how quickly it all passes.
This first birthday session was particularly special for me because Ridley was the first baby I photographed in the studio space as a newborn back when the idea of opening the studio was just a dream. He was the first baby I photographed when I was praying over the decision to become a full-time newborn photographer. Time passed so quickly, and seeing this family a year later in the same space was unforgettable.
I usually start milestone sessions with the little ones while mama is getting her hair and makeup done. We start with some fun portraits sitting on the floor and typically within the first few minutes we are playing peek-a-boo in the curtains, throwing and stacking blocks, and exploring all there is to see in the room. After mama finished her hair and makeup and big sis and dad got dressed from the studio wardrobe, it was time for family photos.
Something extra memorable about this session was that Ridley decided to take a cat nap during the beginning of family photos. It’s pretty typical for a newborn or a 3 month old to fall asleep during portraits, but for a one year old it is pretty rare. We had to take advantage of it and snap a few sleepy little boy portraits which ended up being some of my favorites. We perked him up with a little cake and then it was game on!
I love how Chelsea and Sheldon will have these images to look back on in addition to Ridley’s newborn photos and Chelsea’s maternity photos to remember this special season.
